Around the World- The Music of Sarah Tavares

This is a series I intend to make a weekly feature around here. It will focus on different cultures from all parts of the world. I will try to introduce you to particular aspects of those cultures like cuisine, interesting sites, art, and music among other things.

For the very first blog piece, I'd like to introduce you to Sarah Tavares, specifically her album Xinti.

Country of Origin: Portugal
Cultural Aspect: Music
                         Artist: Sara Tavares
                         Album: Xinti (2009)
                         Genre: Afro-pop, neo-R&B, etc.

If you feel in the mood for soulful acoustic licks and smooth like cream vocals, you can't go wrong with Sarah Tavares' follow-up album Xinti. Songs like Di Alma wash over you with a blend of memorable acoustic riffs and are perfect for attaining a relaxed atmosphere.

Along with Di Alma, go ahead and check out Bue here from off the Amazon playlist. However, don't forget to also listen to the very first song, Quando das Um Pouco Mais, which happens to be my personal favorite.

To give you guys an idea of what some have said about her album, here are a few quotes:

"...the melodies and voice float, by the very careful application of light touches everywhere." -Chris Nickson, Rovi

"Brimming with Cape Verdean guitar licks, Angolese rhythms and warm Portuguese vocals, Sara never sounded more intense." -Amazon.com product description

"...a soft halo of ambient sound, her self-scripted songs are bursting with warmth..."-Michael Church, The Independent (UK)

Aww heck! What am I doing? You don't want to read about it. I'm sure if you've listened to some of the clips you're just dying for more. Well, here comes Youtube to the rescue!

Hope you've enjoyed Ms. Tavares' music as much as I have! Take care gang and next week, we'll take a trip to France and experience a side of it I bet a lot of you aren't all too familiar with.

A bientot!
EE
